文中的“Universiade”就是“大運(yùn)會(huì)”的意思，是由 university 和 Olympiad 兩個(gè)詞縮合而成。“Olympiad”這個(gè)詞是“奧林匹克運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)”。“大運(yùn)會(huì)”的另外一個(gè)表達(dá)是“World University Games”。世界大學(xué)生運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)，素有“小奧運(yùn)會(huì)”之稱，由“國際大學(xué)生體育聯(lián)合會(huì)”（英語：International University Sports Federation；法語：Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire）主辦。
